767605/09/20109/5/2010 3:32:00 PMAUTUMN LAWN CARE
AUTUMN LAWN CARE
The mixed weather of the recent summer months may have left your lawn looking a bit worse for wear. Give you lawn a boost this autumn by spiking, scarifying, patching and feeding during the months of September to November.

Scarifying and raking helps maintain the condition of your lawn by removing old materials such as moss and dead grass. Spiking will help aerate the lawn and improve drainage after the recent prolonged wet weather. This process helps the lawn to produce new growth and thicken over the following year.

It is also important to use a specialist autumn feed that is high in phosphates and potash; this will encourage strong roots and side shoots to develop and help the lawn to thicken for the following season.

September is also an excellent time of year if you need to sow a new lawn or repair bare areas. Rake the soil surface and scatter some grass seed over the patches and any thin areas within the lawn.

To improve germination and to protect from birds cover the seed with a layer of good quality compost and keep moist during dry weather... if we are lucky enough to get any in the next few months.
